Construction of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project in the Greater Edmonton area includes Spread 1 pipeline construction and the expansion of Trans Mountain’s Edmonton Terminal.

Communities included in the Greater Edmonton are:

  • Edmonton
  • Sherwood Park
  • Strathcona County

Spread 1 Pipeline Construction

Pipeline construction in this area begins at Trans Mountain’s Edmonton Terminal in Strathcona County and extends to Highway 60 near Parkland County, primarily following Edmonton’s Transportation Utility Corridor. We’ll work with our contractors to limit noise, dust and night lighting during construction to minimize disruption to our neighbours.

Trans Mountain’s construction contractor for Spread 1 pipeline construction is Midwest Pipelines Inc.. Midwest began in 2012 under private ownership by Albertans and has grown into one of the leading pipeline construction contractors in Western Canada. Midwest is focused on building mid- to large-diameter new pipelines similar in scope to the Trans Mountain Expansion Project.

Edmonton Terminal Construction

Work at Trans Mountain’s Edmonton Terminal will be undertaken by Cord, and will include the addition of four new storage tanks, four new pumps, connecting infrastructure and a new substation. The expansion will bring the total number of tanks at the terminal to 39, with a total capacity of 9.0 million bbl.

Cord has extensive experience with terminal and pump station construction in Western Canada — with experience on more than 50 similar pump stations and work on terminals that includes more than 30 million barrels of storage.
