Construction of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project in the Lower Mainland includes 35 km of pipeline construction between Langley and Burnaby, as well as the expansion of Burnaby Terminal, Westridge Marine Terminal and construction of the Burnaby Mountain Tunnel.

Kiewit Ledcor Trans Mountain Partnership (KLTP) is the general construction contractor for a combination of facility and pipeline work in the Lower Mainland. KLTP’s scope of work includes Spread 7B pipeline construction in Coquitlam and Burnaby, Burnaby Terminal, Westridge Marine Terminal and the Burnaby Mountain Tunnel. KLTP was formed specifically to carry out this work and has a proven track record in finding solutions to minimize impacts of construction activities.
Pipeline Construction
Pipeline construction will include conventional construction techniques and trenchless techniques for key areas like the Fraser River crossing, the Salmon River crossing and in the Fraser Heights neighbourhood.
Construction includes:
- Approximately 35 km of pipeline construction
- Four trenchless crossings using horizontal horizontal direction drilling with other trenchless construction methods used at road crossings and under the Hope Redwoods Natural Area
Burnaby Terminal
Work at Burnaby Terminal includes the removal of one existing storage tank and installation of 14 new storage tanks. Installation of an enhanced stormwater treatment system and relocation of four non-fish-bearing watercourses within the terminal. Additionally, tunnel portal construction for the Burnaby Mountain Tunnel will take place within Burnaby Terminal.
