Westridge Marine Terminal joined Green Marine, a voluntary environmental program, in 2013 to benchmark and commit to continuous improvement in the Terminal’s environmental performance. Green Marine encourages participants to go beyond regulatory compliance and to implement concrete and measurable actions to reduce their environmental footprint.

In April 2014, Westridge Terminal was certified as a member of Green Marine after a third party audit was conducted at the facility.

“We are committed to public safety, protection of the environment and have safely been loading tankers for almost 60 years,” said Michael Davies, Senior Director of Marine Development, Kinder Morgan Canada. “It is our goal to work openly and cooperatively with all stakeholders regarding environmental issues and we believe that the spirit of knowledge-sharing and partnership at the core of Green Marine is a great step towards continuous improvement.”

The Green Marine Environmental Program is an action plan that addresses nine major environmental issues identified by the marine industry. Of those indicators, the following are applicable to the operations at Westridge Terminal:

  • Greenhouse gases and air pollutants
  • Water and land pollution prevention
  • Community impacts
  • Environmental leadership
