As part of our continued commitment to listen closely, respond to concerns and keep talking Kinder Morgan Canada President Ian Anderson answered questions in a telephone town hall on December 3rd. We’re grateful to the more than 5,000 people who joined Ian on the call to share their concerns and questions from Burnaby and the Lower Mainland, across British Columbia and Alberta, and callers from elsewhere in Canada. Throughout the hour long town hall Ian answered a number of questions on the field work and protest on Burnaby Mountain, safety, pipeline routing concerns and even questions on alternate port locations.

In addition to a full recording of town hall we’ve posted to SoundCloud, we’ve highlighted a few of the questions from the evening below.

The first question of the evening came from Eugene, who wanted to know how pipelines stacked up against other methods of transporting oil like rail and truck.

Chad’s question had to do with the GPS coordinates used on Burnaby Mountain to determine the injunction area required to carry out field studies in a safe work area.

Falling oil prices, a topic that’s been covered extensively in the media recently was top of mind for Kirk. In particular he wanted to know if falling oil prices would have an impact on the viability of the pipeline.

Peter was curious if alternative port locations such as Robert’s Bank had been considered.

Ian received some help answering a technical question from Pipeline Project Director Greg Toth for Don; who wanted to know some specifics about the proposed tunnel under Burnaby Mountain and how it compared to other infrastructure in the Lower Mainland.

To cap off the night Melinda simply wanted to know what we’ve learned so far and how we wanted to move forward.
