This past year the Trans Mountain Expansion Project has achieved many important milestones. From a final investment decision on the Project to the commencement of construction at our Westridge Marine Terminal, here’s a look back at five key highlights for the Project in 2017.

  • On January 10, the Province of BC announced that the Project had its environmental certificate from the Environmental Assessment Office, subject to 37 Conditions, and had met the Requirements for British Columbia to Consider Support for Heavy Oil Pipelines (B.C.’s 5 Conditions). The decision was made with considerations of various federal and provincial reports, submissions from Aboriginal groups.
  • On May 25, Kinder Morgan made a final investment decision (FID) on the Trans Mountain Expansion Project, a decision that was contingent on securing financing by the end of May 2017.
  • The successful completion of an Initial Public Offering (IPO) for Kinder Morgan Canada Limited (KML) on May 30th secured the Project’s required financing and triggered a number of important next steps, including finalizing construction contracts.
  • With Project execution planning complete, investments secured, the required approvals in hand, Trans Mountain announced the selection of six contractors with experience in delivering pipeline and major infrastructure projects in British Columbia and Alberta.
  • Trans Mountain reached a major Project milestone with the start of construction on September 29th at our Westridge Marine Terminal in Burnaby, BC. The arrival of the DB General, a critical piece of equipment needed for the building the terminal’s new three-berth dock kicked-off the construction phase of the Project, which is now underway.
