After beginning the Trans Mountain Expansion Project’s Business Readiness Workshop Tour in Burnaby in September, Trans Mountain and its General Construction Contractors (GCC) received a warm welcome in Edmonton and Hinton last week during our Alberta series.

On the morning of November 8, the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce hosted Trans Mountain in their office at the World Trade Centre in downtown Edmonton for an interactive workshop with its GCC for the Greater Edmonton region and Yellowhead , Midwest Pipelines Inc. The GCC for the Edmonton Terminal and pump stations, WorleyParsonsCord, and the construction monitoring inspection contractors, Stantec and WorleyParsons, also participated to assist the business community and Chamber of Commerce members understand and prepare for potential procurement opportunities. This event was sold out with 130 attendees, who were mostly well-experienced in construction within the oil and gas industry.

Later that afternoon, Trans Mountain held a similar workshop in Hinton, Alberta hosted by the Hinton and District Chamber of Commerce which attracted over 80 attendees. Businesses ranged from medical services to hotel accommodation. General managers and business owners who attended the workshop had the opportunity to get face-to-face interaction with the GCCs and receive direct information about the Project's procurement process and timelines. Trans Mountain’s GCC for the reactivation phases of the Project, SIMPCW Ledcor, also attended the workshop to help potential suppliers prepare to participate in the process of bidding for work on the Project.

Networking was the most valuable part of the workshop because attendees were able to ask questions to subject matter experts from Trans Mountain, Midwest Pipelines Inc. and the other contractors and businesses. The Mayor of Hinton, His Worship Marcel Michaels, also attended the workshop to receive an update on construction schedule and show his support for Trans Mountain’s efforts in maximizing local business opportunities.

Trans Mountain’s online procurement registry will assist with the selection process for potential sub-contractors, suppliers and vendors. The data collected by Trans Mountain will be provided to all of Trans Mountain’s GCCs for consideration. Businesses are encouraged to register their company here.
