As part of our ongoing commitment to safety and emergency preparedness, Kinder Morgan Canada Limited (KML) recently conducted an emergency response exercise at our Sumas Terminal in Abbotsford, BC. The purpose of this planned exercise was to practice KML’s Fire Pre-Plan for Sumas Terminal and deploy the terminal’s fire response equipment to ensure an effective response in the unlikely event of an emergency.

This exercise enabled KML and local first responders to enhance response skills to fire incidents. Approximately 12 KML personnel and contractors, as well as the Abbotsford Fire Department, participated in the drill. The primary focus of the exercise was safety, use of proper response equipment and fire awareness. The exercise consisted of both classroom-based training and an equipment deployment at Sumas Terminal in response to a simulated fire at the facility.

“The exercise provided an opportunity for our responders to work with the City of Abbotsford fire fighters to exercise the implementation of our Fire Pre-Plan demonstrating a safe and efficient fire response,” said KML’s Manager of Emergency Management, Kelly Malinoski.

KML is required by its regulators to have an Emergency Management Program that anticipates, prevents, manages and mitigates conditions during the unlikely event of an emergency. Regular training and exercises are integral to KML’s safety and emergency preparedness program to ensure a quick and efficient response.
