On June 5, 2018, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited our Edmonton Terminal in Sherwood Park, Alberta to tour the facility, meet with media and host a coffee chat with employees and contractors of the terminal. Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Amarjeet Sohi and Member of Parliament for Edmonton Centre Randy Boissonnault also accompanied the Prime Minister on his visit.

On a private tour with our Central Region Director of Operations, the Prime Minister received information about current terminal operations and visited future sites where the Trans Mountain Expansion will be constructed within the terminal.

After making a brief statement to media who were invited to take photos, Prime Minister Trudeau joined employees and contractors in the terminal mechanical maintenance shop for coffee and conversation. There, the team asked questions about the recent sale of the Trans Mountain Pipeline and what it means for them, for Kinder Morgan, for the pipeline industry and for Canada.

We asked some of the Edmonton Terminal employees what it was like to have the Prime Minister visit their workplace. Here’s what some had to say:

“Meeting the Prime Minister was a great thing to see and feel, as I’ve been in the oil industry well over 30 years. And seeing a public figure such as the Prime Minister taking the time to stop in and shake hands with us and have a question and answer session was definitely a highlight for me.” —  Aaron, Mechanical Maintenance Technician

“I thought it was a great experience to meet the Prime Minister and for him to directly answer some of the questions that folks at the terminal had regarding Ottawa stepping in to purchase the pipeline. It was nice to be one of the the first one at the terminal to shake his hand.” — Kelvin, Intermediate Engineer

“It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to meet a Prime Minister in this type of setting. He couldn’t have been more cordial, open and easy to talk to. He was very eager to learn more about our facilities and meet with the employees." — Dan,  Director, Central Region and Control Centre
