As part of our ongoing commitment to safety and emergency preparedness, we recently conducted an emergency response exercise on the Fraser River in Coquitlam. The purpose of the exercise was to practice our Emergency Response Plan, confirm viable spill control points along the Fraser River and to refresh personnel on spill response tactics in a river environment during freshet.
The drill included both land and water-based training, including the deployment of spill response resources on the Fraser River. Approximately 75 personnel participated in or observed the exercise, including employees, contractors, first responders, government agencies and Indigenous groups.
Trans Mountain is required by our regulators to have an Emergency Management Program (EMP) that anticipates, prevents, manages and mitigates conditions during the unlikely event of an emergency. Regular training and exercises are integral to our EMP to ensure a quick and efficient response.
