Trans Mountain proudly supports Dig Safe Month—an important initiative recognized in Canada and the US—that raises awareness about safe digging practices with the goal of improving personal safety and reducing damage to underground infrastructure. Did you know that just below the surface there could be buried water lines, a pipeline transporting oil or natural gas, or cables and wires for telecommunications? Whether you’re planning a home improvement project, planting a tree or building a fence, it’s important to know what’s below the surface.
This month, Trans Mountain is promoting “Click or Call Before You Dig” to encourage residential, commercial and industrial diggers to connect with their local One Call service before any earth is disturbed—regardless of how big or small the project may be.
One Call is a free service that fulfils requests to locate and identify buried infrastructure on your property or project site. It should always be the first step before you start any landscaping or home improvement project that involves ground disturbance. You can submit a request to locate underground infrastructure by visiting clickbeforeyoudig.com or contacting one of your local One Call centres:
- Utility Safety Partners (Alberta)
- BC One Call (British Columbia)
- 811 Washington (Washington state)
While April is Dig Safe Month, safety is important 365 days of the year. Know what’s below and remind friends and loved ones to do the same. Click or call before you dig.
