Trans Mountain and the City of Spruce Grove are pleased to announce the opening of the new Jubilee Park Boardwalk Trail. The new trail is a result of a Community Benefit Agreement signed in 2015 for $200,000 towards enhancements for Jubilee Park.

As part of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project, Trans Mountain has committed funds to communities impacted by construction. The City of Spruce Grove decided to use these funds to enhance the existing trail network in Jubilee Park by creating a new boardwalk system within the forested area.

“Along with my colleagues on City Council, I am very excited that our partnership with Trans Mountain could create this new boardwalk for our community,” said Jeff Acker, Mayor, Spruce Grove. . “Jubilee Park is a favourite amenity for many of our residents and visitors, and this enhancement will certainly add to their enjoyment of the park.”

The boardwalk will help to provide safe connections along the existing trail network during all seasons and limit disturbance to the wetland eco-system. Alberta Environment and Parks has approved the new boardwalk and a portion of the existing trail system will be permanently closed as part of the wetland protection.

“Trans Mountain values the relationships we have built with communities along the pipeline corridor that span our more than 65-year history. We are proud to contribute to this new boardwalk that will enhance Jubilee Park and be enjoyed by the community and its residents for years to come,” said Siobhan Vinish, Vice President, Public Affairs, Trans Mountain Corporation.

Trans Mountain has signed Community Benefit Agreements, which help fund initiatives from education and training opportunities, to investing in infrastructure and park and trail improvement projects. The funds help to compensate for public inconvenience and temporary disruption caused during construction.
