Supporting Education and Training

Our ongoing education and training program involves extensive consultation with communities and Indigenous groups along the pipeline route. By collaborating with qualified and interested community members, we work with training providers to offer training to address the skills we need to complete the Project.

Developing partnerships with training providers is an important part of our Employment and Training Strategy. Training programs in Alberta and BC continue to be identified and opportunities are being secured. Industry-recognized certificate training that enhances the employability of individuals who have earned these certificates is being delivered for a variety of jobs and roles including:

  • Construction readiness
  • Flagging
  • Security guard
  • Camp cook
  • Pipeline construction safety training (PCST)
  • First aid
  • WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
  • Ground disturbance

We’ve developed partnerships with a many institutions including in BC, Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops, the Cariboo Aboriginal Training Employment Centre in Williams Lake, Seabird Island College in Chilliwack, and in Alberta, Women Building Futures in Edmonton and Opus Stewart Weir (OSW). These partnerships will help us train people and provide them with valuable industry experience.

Additionally, Trans Mountain has invested in the BCIT Marine Simulation Centre to support the training of future ship crews and captains.

Education Legacy Program

The Trans Mountain Expansion Project Community Benefits Program provides lasting benefits to communities along the pipeline corridor. Education is one of the program’s priorities. The Education Legacy Program focuses on bursaries and scholarships to increase the capacity of students in the trades, technologies and environmental disciplines. Our focus is on training programs that increase the capacity of individuals to protect and enhance the environment. Currently, Trans Mountain has partnerships with Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops, BC and Camosun College (CC) in Victoria, BC.
